YETICARD ?

Daring achievements on the mountains!

Do you want to be blown away by spectacular winter sports skills?  These will inspire you to go harder and faster on your boards and skis…there’s no adrenaline rush quite like it!

Flying downhill
Speed riding (or speed flying) is completely different from any other type of skiing you will have tried.  It’s something that all committed thrill-seekers will yearn to try at least once in their lives…

Only 10 years old, this new sport toggles between skiing and paragliding on unmarked trails for maximum thrills. One thing is certain, it is not for the faint hearted and it’s strictly for the experts – a full mastery of skiing and paragliding techniques are really needed to do this.

Speed riders need to know exactly how to adjust their parachute to avoid falling into dangerous places, and be expert in landing on skis without causing injuries.

Because there are only a few people in the world that can attempt this sport, it’s even more impressive to see a successful run – such as this amazing downhill “flight” from the top of the Eiger.

Extreme attitude!
Extreme skiing definitely isn’t for everyone! Extreme skiing is a freeride sport and was developed by skiers who wanted to ski in a less restricted environment and who loved the great open spaces, taking risks on steep, dangerous slopes and the freedom of skiing away from the standard tracks, with no one else around.
Extreme skiing is the most dangerous form of skiing and something that most of us can only dream about.

Disciplined, professional skiers stretch the safety limits as far as they can go to achieve unbeatable, unique sensations.  Not just for the skier, for the spectator too.

Extreme skiing stunts are a feast for the eyes – it’s hard to believe what you are seeing.  Like speed riding, the more dangerous it is, the more people want to try it!

Skiers take delight down slopes with inclines over 50 ° (for some perspective – the most dangerous black runs are at 30 °, so you can imagine…) Like the speed riding, the more dangerous, the more people want to try it out!

There are all sorts of stunts that extreme skiers try; jumping off mountains then waiting a while before releasing their parachutes, or triggering off avalanches – anything as long as it is extremely dangerous.

Anyone who is tempted to try out extreme skiing needs to bear in mind just how long and hard these professionals work to perfect their skills – definitely don’t try this at home!

A stuntman on the snow
We have one more accomplishment to share with you – this is the descent of the Bode Miller (American super-skier, considered by many to be one of the best Alpine skiers of all time) in 2005 at the World Championships in Bormio.

Bode has won so many championships, but this one is a bit different.  He loses a ski early on, but continues to ski downhill on one foot – and he makes it look so easy.

In fact, he carried on for almost two minutes before losing his balance.  This was one event where he missed out on a medal, but Bode Miller certainly displayed all his talent and expertise in this run…a feat that few people are able to accomplish.

Take a look for yourself!
